Synopsis

After being mugged leaving church, ANJELICA sees visions of her gay brother, Jorge, dying. Believing her visions are caused by her faltering faith, she consults a psychologist for modern-day answers. Secretly voyeuristic, her psychologist, TONI is envious of Anjelica’s sensuality and relationship with Mitch, a free-spirited artist who Anjelica met online. MITCH is on the verge of a big break when his teenage daughter, RACHEL, who he has never met comes to stay. Rachel knows how to take care of herself and take what she fancies. When she witnesses JORGE reciting Shakespeare to a bigoted bookstore manager, she befriends him and gets the job he is being denied. Aspiring actors, they become fast friends. When Anjelica sees Mitch with a woman, she goes on a suicidal binge, to be saved by a pizza-delivery man buzzing her doorbell. Believing this to be a sign from God, Anjelica confronts her bigoted father, who finally acknowledges Jorge's homosexuality. Toni has her own visitors: her mother, BELLA, with her ex con husband DIEGO. Ostensibly in town to celebrate their anniversary, they aim to blackmail a senator’s wife with a porn tape from when she was a teen, now stored on an iPod. When Toni connects with Mitch their burgeoning romance is cut short when Rachel pilfers the iPod, little realizing its potential worth. The missing iPod sets Diego on a mad chase, coinciding with Anjelica’s call to Toni about another vision, triggering events that lead to the death of Jorge.

Carnaval in San Francisco May 20, 2008 02:26PM
I just saw a listing for Carnaval this upcoming weekend and it reminded me that this time last year I saw it as a great opportunity to get some San Francisco color into MISMO. So, off we went our guerilla team on a foggy Sunday morning to stake out a spot from which we could film the action and our two characters, Rachel and Jorge, watching the parade. We got there way too early and had hours to kill before the parade arrived. The results however were great and should be a cool montage in the film. I was going to add photographs, but this site doesn't allow it. You'll have to move on over to facebook to see them...

Mismo is the brainchild of Gino Dante Borges and Lorraine Flett who thought that they could write/produce/direct a feature film de-constructive style by shooting a series of shorts that would later be pulled apart and reframed like a jigsaw puzzle into a full length film.

The first day of filming was May 5th, 2007. During this time, Gino and Lorraine continued to cast for supporting roles that would be featured in other shorts. During their rigorous casting process, they realized that they had exceptional talent on their hands and adapted the story to expand the roles of specifically Rachel and Jorge, played by Samantha Warnick and Peter Federico.

It wasn't long before they realized that they needed a full script and took a break from shooting to write it. They had a full cast reading on June 21st, 2007.
