Synopsis

'A Shift in Perception' is a humanistic, informal examination of living with blindness. Taking an experimental approach to documentary making, conversations with three blind South Australian women are illustrated using a broad range of camera techniques on Super8 film (predominantly in black and white). The makers use stop-motion animation, time lapse and many other methods of abstraction to invite the viewer to celebrate the beauty of the women's unique perspectives. With voices set in the midst of an experimental score by composer Alex Carpenter, the film washes over its audience like a dream; a heightened sensory experience. Described by Realtime OnScreen magazine as ‘a visual treat’ the women’s insights and the filmmakers' artistic approach are memorable, evocative and poignant.

Riding the festival wave... Dec 07, 2006 04:17AM
Well, I'm back with my partner Emma Sterling after our international premiere at IDFA, and the film is currently screening at Tirana, Albania before moving on to Sound Experimental in Laredo, Texas. News has just come in that our film has been selected for Big Sky in Montana as well, and we're chuffed. With any luck this trend will continue well into next year, and should bolter our pitches and applications for future project funding. IDFA was something to behold... 270 films from all corners of the earth, and an extraordinary number of guests, parties and industry activities. Highly recommended for any lover for non-fiction film.
Accepted into IDFA! Sep 15, 2006 05:08AM
Wow. Took a call last night and now our film's been selected to screen at the International Documentary Festival, Amsterdam in November! We're absolutely chuffed, and this (hopefully) marks the first in a run of international festival screenings. Exciting times ahead...

More good news... we've been accepted into the Fleurieu Film Festival here in South Australia and will be screening over the weekend 9-11th November at a picturesque winery down south at McLaren Vale. We've also been nominated for an award at the fest, so we'll have to see how that rinses out. Onwards and upwards...
