Film Description:
Synopsis
After decades of watching aliens wreck havoc in America, “The Alien Invasion” brings the absurd battle to the comical side of Singapore. After seven thousand earth years, they have returned to harvest their newly grown planet of slaves. Discover how a glitch in alien technology allowed a small university, in a small country, to help save the world. Featuring Singapore’s modern culture of diverse races and mixed languages, local occupational stereotypes, and the country’s oldest university building, the madcap satirical adventure is told by over 80 cast members of real life university students, staff, and professors. Filmed by a 7 member crew, this incredible film rolls out each scene with an intense mixture of action, comedy, satire, and the ever present desire to be heroes – even if only for a day.

The Alien Invasion Now In DivX
THE ALIEN INVASION isn't over yet... after another few hundreds of thousand more viewers since the last newsletter, the short film has found a new place to land in - DivX's Stage 6.
It all started when DivX contacted us after reading about THE ALIEN INVASION in an online article, “The Making (and Distribution) of The Alien Invasion” by John Virata from Digital Media Network(DMN). Now, after the first month, more than 10,000 people have downloaded or viewed the short film from DivX alone! (It doesn't hurt to land on the soft and cushie "hot6" list and top it twice for the past month either :P). Now you can view and download the film in HD resolution, or watch it on your HDTV with a DivX enabled DVD player.
We also keep a DivX journal there, and yes, we treasure all our subscribers and every comment & precious "w00t!" We're grateful for DivX's invitation, encoding software sponsorship, and web publicity. If you haven't seen the film, or know someone who could do with a light-hearted action adventure with aliens, speeding/exploding cars, and ridiculous comedy to start the year on the right foot, here's yet another place to get it.
Here's
1 of the 15 web-exclusive Outtake clips from The Alien Invasion, available
in the film's website.
It features the nonsense that goes on behind shooting the Security Guard
vs Chicken Pie sequence.
Hope you'd enjoy it!

Del.icio.us"The Alien Invasion" was our Singapore based movie studio, Richmanclub Studios', 1st official production after being incorporated.
It
has always been the director's childhood dream of having aliens attack
Asia, and his entire school can be transformed into inter-galactic fighters,
save the day, and skip class while at it. This finally came true in his
final year of University when it called for bids for a commencement show.

Utilizing a massive cast of over 80 real-life students, staff, and professors
from the university, The Alien Invasion was filmed in 3 weeks, and had
to be completed in another 3 weeks.
As the film was shoot in a held-held moving style to move away from the
serious slick look of Hollywood's alien films, much of the challenges
came in match-moving all the visual effects with the handheld shots.
The film is meant to have satirical elements especially in a Singaporean
context, thus the entire feel of the movie had to be one of fun and adventure.
Game cinematics visual effects were therefore used instead of realistic
ones for the over-the-top look.
Realistic Effects vs Over-the-top Game Cinematics effects
After a great premiere, 2 further months were spent on editing and sound/visual
effects to craft the short film into it's madcap pseudo-blockbuster shape.
The greatest dream of a young independent film company was realized when
the final version of the film became Singapore's 1st ever short film nominee
in the "Chinese Oscars"-The Golden Horse Awards for "Best
International Digital Short Film" 2004.

After
allowing the film to travel around, the studio has decided to release
the film freely worldwide for the sake of entertainment, and are attempting
to distribute it in a fully digital manner where watching the film is
not limited to online streaming/download, but for viewing in most popular
digital devices as well.
The added challenge is to accomplish all these with free and open source
means available to every film maker, programmer, and designer.
In coming months after this Digital Launch, we hope to share with fellow
film makers and studios, the results of the launch, and the technical
means behind it, such that everyone can have a go at it, and eventually,we
hope to see if audiences are indeed ready for such mobile entertainment,
and whether it will indeed prove to be a sustainable avenue for movie/tv
companies and individuals.
We'd
be very grateful if you could help spread the word on the film and it's
launch.
And do contact us should you have any technical feedback etc.such that
all of us film-makers can benefit from it!
Enjoy and have fun!
