In August 2006, a young homeless woman was thrown into the Cumberland River and drowned. Two young men, on a dare, decided to roll a homeless woman into the river to see what would happen. Well, the young woman that was thrown into the river drowned, and 11 days later, her body was recovered. That young woman was Tara Cole, of Elgin, Illinois. She was not homeless, but mentally ill. This one particular night, she was not able to get a room at the shelter, so she decided to sleep near the river, with some of her other shelter friends. Unfortunately, she was the victim of a horrible crime. Her family wants people to know that Tara was not homeless, but she was sick. She was a normal woman with a loving family, but she will always been remembered as the 'Homeless Woman that was thrown into the river'. This project will hopefully change that image. It will also explain to people how her family suffered while trying to get her help from this sickness.
