Film Description:

Synopsis

Amidst twilight our sleeping protagonist is awoken by the sound of a haunting, static filled, melody, playing from a furtive radio. He rises from his nap, and groggily turns the dial until the melody fades and the radio clicks off. Then, in an effort to achieve full consciousness our protagonist approaches coffee of an undeterminable age and attempts to reheat it. To his wonder the haunting melody has returned. The radio is somehow on again. When our protagonist slowly shuts the radio off once more he is surprised to find the coffee pot shut off as well. What follows is a ghostly struggle for caffeine.

Shipped off another submission today for the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Still waiting on confirmation from the Chicago Shorts Fest, keep your fingers crossed. There's a new synopsis of the movie up and thanks to Hayley Meister, my art director, for making those changes for the dvd cover so fast. Couldn't have done this without you. Oh, and while I'm handing out thanks, our executive producer Robert Adams now has domluongo.com up and running. If you haven't seen Coffee-Static yet, or want to watch it again check it out.

Filmmaker's Notes - What inspired the picture? May 15, 2008 03:02PM
“Well, the story was based on two things, or rather I had two items running through my mind at the time I sat down to write the treatment. One item was a reoccurring nightmare of mine where I’m at home, alone, and despite all the lights being off each room had obscure pools of light. Music would start to play and I would try to find its source. The music would become louder and softer inconsistently throughout the house and I would be left searching for it the rest of the night. The second item was one of the late Kurt Vonnegut’s eight rules for writing a short story.

A tight little piece. Well timed and executed. Also well shot with a surrealistic, dreamlike appeal. Does the radio die in the end? Did the coffee machine do it? I'd like to see your style extended into a longer piece. Good work dom.
