Synopsis
Sal Stevens, an aging Italian American crooner, learns that his estranged son, Michael, a successful casino entertainment executive, is selling the house Sal built for his family over thirty years ago. Sal protests the sale of the home by slipping into the indoor pool and refusing to get out. With an open house scheduled for the next day, Michael seeks to expel his father from the pool by draining it. As an obstinate Sal sinks with the water, he and Michael are forced to confront their family demons and suppressed resentment for each other. By morning, Sal lies shivering and weak in the remaining water. As Michael seethes with rage, Sal finally concedes the reason for his descent into the pool: his discovery that Michael cut him out of a family photo that Sal has treasured for over the years. A lovely, charming, sad film with two strong characters and a great backstory -- all in 17 minutes! Excellent filmmaking.
