Film Description:
Synopsis
‘Evaporations’ speaks of the formlessness and transience of everything. The cityscape of New Delhi is viewed as a space where existence is geared towards making money and possessing more, while operating within society dictated morality, greed and dysfunction. Man’s constant struggle with himself to overcome desires and exalt to contentment, peace and harmony within is depicted. The film uses a mixture of stop frame animation and footage shot in and around New Delhi, the capital of India. These juxtaposed spaces represent diverse faces of economic class, culture, architecture, history and spirit. The imagery conveys a montage and city of contradictions and incongruity. To keep stride with the competition we go faster, higher and try to be stronger but is this really our strength or the alchemy of decay? If we turn a blind eye to ugliness does our inner beauty thrive or shrivel to mirror the same hideousness that repulses us? Layered visuals, subtle sounds capes and the voices of the people of the street metaphorically tell the tale of the mythological city of ‘Atlantis’. The city which was submerged by the wrath of the gods due to excessive greed and conflict. The resemblance is not a prediction but a statement to say slow down because everything is fleeting. For in the end we get caught in a chain of wants, possession and materialism, which evaporates eventually, like water.
