Film Description:

Synopsis

Do Fairies exist? This simple question is the nucleus of a thoughtful inspiring documentary that deepens the viewer’s love of nature, eliciting a sense of wonder. Fairy Tracks begins with a survey of fairy legend, defining and locating fairies. It concludes with current scientific observations in psychology, ecology, and physics. The film is visually supported with art imagery, interviews, fanciful animations, landscape images and the encounters of children and adults with fairies. Interviewed are experts in diverse fields; a nun, rabbi, philosopher, physicist, psychologist, native Americans, and ecologists. Thsy discuss the psychological, spiritual, and scientific aspects implied in the search. We question our own often-aberrant relationship with nature. We look at the healthy need for the symbolic expression of nature spirits, their value as an aid in finding our place in nature, and finally the spiritual sustenance permeating throughout nature. We establish an existence of hidden perfections, the value in the unknown. There is much we don’t know: indeed, can never know. .Fairy Tracks recaptures our innate sense of wonder. The mix of science and spirit gently suggests we take better stewardship of this awesome construct we call nature. The filmic montage shows physical reality as spacious and never empty. The horizon, is filled with forms of dancers, tricksters, philanthropists and saviors, givers and takers, builders and destroyers. Nature is interconnected, and the connection between every point is sacred mysterious and filled with hope and potential. This film helps us to remember why we care.

environmental awareness Sep 11, 2006 08:45AM
Environmental is most often thought of as having to do with our "natural" surroundings. A somewhat deeper view includes the idea of the 4 elements, Earth, air, water, fire, and all the allegorical and metaphoric references that engenders. But in the largest picture environment is equally defined by our own psyche, and our own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual reaction, the interrelationship to the all that surrounds and fills us. The environment is as much external stimulae as it is internal response. This is where we come to awareness. Awareness ideally leads to response What is the first and proper response to our environment. I would suggest awe, wonder, deep appreciation. These reactions create a foundation that leads to a heightened desire to be a true and benevolent steward of this awesome construct that envelops us.
