Film Description:

Synopsis

Kristofer, a Russian Georgian immigrant, is trying to make his way in a new country, a new school and onto the varsity team. Living under the weight of his father’s anger and economic hardship, Kristofer keeps himself afloat with a basketball and a flirtatious spirit. But when Sarah flirts back, Kristofer begins to realize he may have come on to the wrong girl. Sarah has her hands full trying to keep her random drug use within the range of an excusable cry for attention, but it’s quickly becoming a real problem. Like so many troubles, a stack of money would go a long way toward making things better, but the only available cash lies in a shoebox at the bottom of Jessie’s closet and Jessie’s Dad is a cop. As these individual stories intersect and collide, heartache ignites into remarkable hope. Fall to Grace reminds us of the invisible threads connecting us to one another, creating a net to catch us when we fall.

Review - Mpls Star Tribune Jul 10, 2006 06:46PM
“…a promising amount of raw talent…the film leaves you optimistic.” Minneapolis Star Tribune Read the full review - http://www.startribune.com/1526/story/536456.html
Great Review - Denver Westword Jul 10, 2006 06:43PM
"In this beautifully acted, carefully observed drama set in a transitional, multi-ethnic section of Austin, Texas, writer-director Mari Marchbanks - an Austin resident herself - examines the dangerous social collisions between the disturbed, drug-addled teenage daughter (Kira Pozehi) of a down-at-the-heels restaurant owner, the sweet-tempered Georgian immigrant (Gabriel Luna) who has a crush on her, and a cabal of drug dealers led by the girl's nasty Uncle Auggie (Bill Johnson). The screenplay tends toward melodrama, and its many narrative threads sometimes tangle. But when the moonstruck boy's good-hearted parents (Bhagrit Crow and Julia Polozova) take on the problems of their traumatized neighborhood, Marchbank's visions of personal and communal redemption begin to make perfect sense. Pozehi's magnetism is extraordinary, the Austin-tinged soundtrack hits just the right highs and lows, and Jay P. Lipa's evocative camerawork signals a bright future behind the Panaflex. This modestly produced feature represents all that's good and right in the indie-film movement." - Bill Gallo, Denver Westword

As an actor, the performances were powerful and full. Ms. Marchbanks has created an inspired script rich with the angst of our youth. The cinematography and soundtrack are amazing.

This is a subtle film. I have loved it both times I have seen it. The hopeful ending is not sappy, and does not diminish the reality of the troubles illustrated in a multi-ethnic disenchanted world. For me, it struck just the right notes..

What a wonderful movie!! This film draws you in as you become involved with the people who live in this neighborhood and you truly fall in love with the characters. This film was so well written and played out so well for that to occur. I enjoyed every minute of this movie and hope the world will get to see this one.

Mari Marchbanks is a remarkable writer who takes you inside the dark corners of people's minds, particularly women. I'm interested to follow her career as I know it will be equally fantastic.

We screened Fall to Grace last year at the Rhode Island International Film Festival where it one a top award. We knew when we first screened the film that it deserved a future. What a pleasure to see that it has a theatrical booking. This is a wonderful film and I could not be happier for the filmmakers. I wish them great success and I hope new audiences discover this gem.

I for one am tired of the movies that Hollywood pushes me to see every year, and Mari's film is a perfect example for others to follow...a film with pure emotion.
