Film Description:
Synopsis
Maureen Ackerman (Sharon Lawrence), a clever, coquettish housewife, starts her day like any other -- the morning crossword, tea, breakfast. She sees off her husband (Tom Irwin) with an obligatory kiss and a wave. Then her lover (Carlos Gomez) shows up. After seducing her, he gives her a beautiful diamond necklace and challenges her to get it past her husband. Intrigued by both the diamonds and the dare, Maureen concocts a plan involving a pawnshop and a 'lost' claim ticket. What follows is a fast game of deception and greed where tables turn and even the best-laid plans become unraveled.

I'm a fan of Tom Irwin's work (he's massively underated and underused) and would love to see this film. How does one go about seeing it?

Saw this film at the Stony Brook Film Festival. It was fantastic. The film completely captivated the audience. There was more solid, enjoyable and creative entertainment in this little film than in all the feature films I have seen this year. Bravo to all involved ... give us more!

Just saw this film on Raleigh's "Second Cinema" show. What a gem. A wonderful set of interlocking deceptions, worthy of a feature. And the production values are great.

I'm looking forward to seeing it! But wait a minute...someone else is sleeping with the director?

Excellent performances showcased by a tight, satisfying script. The perfect story for a short film.

The script for FOOL ME ONCE came to me in the fall of 2005 from Writer / Cinematographer, Cliff Traiman. I had been looking to direct another short film but was feeling uninspired to write. I asked several friends if they knew any writers who would be willing to part with their scripts. Producer, Karim Ahmed from Momentum Cinema put me in touch with Cliff and a friendship was born.
Out of the five or six wonderful scripts he sent me, I picked the one originally entitled, LIFE IS A SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE. Inspired by a Roald Dahl short story, the script was simple, elegant and full of potential. However, at 24 pages, it was too long.
Cliff and I bounced revisions back and forth and after a few months had a shootable script and a new title.
I immediately began calling friends and other industry professionals to see if they would help me make this project a reality. Most of them signed on right away. Chief among them was Sharon Lawrence (NYPD BLUE, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES).
She had been doing a play with my friend, Nicholas Gonzalez, who put us in contact and who later signed on as Producer. After reading the script, Sharon agreed to play the lead role of Maureen and the project gained significant momentum. In the following months, the cast was locked with Tom Irwin (MY SO CALLED LIFE, RELATED), Carlos Gomez (SHARK, SLEEPER CELL), Barry Lynch and Monica Allgeier (REDLINE, STEPPIN: THE MOVIE, ENTOURAGE).
After a few months of trying to raise money for the film, I finally cashed in my 401k, put a little on the Visa and got it done.
I'm very proud of this little film and I hope you all enjoy it.
