Film Description:
Synopsis
God in the Box is an intriguing and probing documentary film, currently in production, which delves into the mystery and controversy behind God's many faces and interpretations of form. In today's fractured and confusing claims on God, the film asserts two basic questions: What does God mean to you? What does God look like, to you? During the 'road trip' portion of the production, the filmmakers embark on a cross-country journey to collect material from the smallest towns to the largest cities. A provocative set, wired with high definition cameras and sound equipment, invites participants to step inside and share their private thoughts on God and if possible, draw their image of God. Theologians, art historians, and sociologists are among the experts who help put the material in a context, which further explores what truly unifies us and reveals more about what actually divides us.
Forms: Documentary
Genres: Alternative, Avant-garde, Road Trip, Reality, Art, Spiritual

Hey everyone, As we begin the new year, we are all very excited to begin ramping up production on the project. We've been busy with all sorts of post production, but we still have some work to do.
We are close to securing a few big names for interviews for the film (no jinx--- tell you more when we get them!) and we are looking to update the website with even more interactive stuff soon. We sincerely hope the holidays were good for everyone of you... and again, ask, that you tell all your friends about our film, project, and website... and as always, please remember that you can be a part of all this by submitting your own stuff! Just check out the website.
We'll be updating a lot more here, real soon... including a ton more excerpts from the BOX that we got on our roadtrip last fall. We hope you stay with us!
Talk to you again soon,
Troy

John, and any others who are wondering:
We welcome your submissions online. We are still working out ways to receive whatever folks might want to send, but for now, the email address (SUBMISSIONS@GodintheBox.tv) is the best way to submit material.
We welcome scanned drawings, detailed descriptions, video clips, etc. If you can email it, we'll take it. We are currently collecting the material from a variety of sources and soon, will be taking it to some established experts for analysis. These types of experts will include theologians, historians, people with insight who can help put the material into context.
So, I thank you for asking. I'm sorry we just missed you in D.C. and I look forward to reading or hearing your thoughts. That last part goes for the rest of you, too.

I happened on the Box at the DC location just as it was being wrapped up for the trip to NYC, so I missed participating. I think its an amazing idea. Years ago I started a "philosophy book" which I mailed to friends and had them make entries answering one or two basic questions on their beliefs. Its reached a pretty large geographic (and certainly philosophic) range. Be that as it may, I'd really like to contribute, since I think this is an awesome idea, and fits perfectly within my own personal search.
Can I still contribute an esay based on the book?

Whoops! The days have gone by so fast so allow us to catch up.
The GITB RV rumbled into Birmingham on Thursday, Sept. 21st. We erected "the Box" in the Five Points area, which is the downtown hub of traffic and pedestrians. Once again perfect weather and a premier location. The Birmingham film office was incredibly helpful and supportive of our production (Thank you Mark Stricklin).
The Box drew immense attention and at times, folks waited in line for a chance to share their feelings. The entire crew was encouraged by the diverse and honest responses to our questions. When we wrapped in Birmingham The Box had hosted the most guests we had seen so far.
The 15-hour haul to D.C. was the next big challenge. Friday was spent on the road plotting possible locations, finalizing permits, and logging tape. We all anticipated the last few days of our journey to be the most difficult.
The idyllic, monumental D.C. backdrop wasn't materializing for The Box. We all hoped to shoot somewhere near the mall but the D.C. park film office wasn't keen on letting us put The Box where we originally intended. Challenge equals solution. All the bureaucrats did was force the production into an even better location. A red brick street corner in the Capitol Hill neighborhood just blocks from the monuments became our stage. To our amazement, once again the day worked out perfectly. The looming skies retained their moisture and curious people stepped into the box in a steady stream. D.C. in the can!
New York City looked like a 400-pound gorilla to a few of the GITB crew. Driving a motor home into Manhattan had us all pretty tense. It was a white-knuckle ride even on a Sunday morning. Weather reports predicted a 60% chance of rain and our location was in question. We ignored it all, pressing through traffic and planting The Box with authority in the middle of Grand Army Plaza. Cabs, carriages, and cool New Yorkers came with curiosity and questions. It was the last day of our trip and we all looked at our modest creation with slack jaws. Humbly, The Box was gathering diverse opinions from the most colorful city in the world. It did rain and the authorities did ask us to leave but not until the last guest let his mind flow inside The Box.
Success! All around success! The GITB crew is thrilled and thankful for the people who courageously stepped into a strange black and white box and opened their hearts. We all dreamed for a fruitful trip but got more than we expected!
The production is far from over though. Half the crew is back in the studio beginning the process of culling the hours of footage. The other half is returning to the west coast in a rental car gathering additional video along the way.
Please continue to check in, follow along, and submit opinions. "God in the Box" is a multimedia film so we encourage your input.

So much to catch up on. We had a long road ahead from St. Louis to Birmingham. Today was a driving day..... and a lot of it. We're ahead of ourselves though. We haven't had time, or internet access to blog about our day in Kansas.
We stopped in Junction City, Kansas on Monday. Though, spontaneous it was a great stop! The people in Kansas opened their hearts and minds in "the box" and provided spectacular material. We set up in Heritage Park which paid homage to those who have served our country.
Birmingham expects to be another honest stop. Five Points is our location on Thursday. A downtown junction of people an places. This shoot should begin to round out our collection of perceptions across the country.
We need to wrap around 2:30pm to begin the long haul to our nation's capitol. No location set for D.C. or NYC set yet but we're confident things will contiunue to fall into place.
Thanks again for everybody's support! Our family and friends have created a network that has made this project...this dream possible! We would not be where we are without your support!
THANK YOU!!!!

Thoughts for Day 5 (I think it's 5...):
FIRST MAN: sometimes I'd like to ask God why he allows poverty, famine and injustice to continue when he could do something about it.
SECOND MAN: what's stopping you ?
FIRST MAN: I'm afraid he might ask me the same question

And... From our dear friend Mark Twain:
I have found out that there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.
Cheers to you and Happy Trails!!

Day 3,
Wow, Denver is far from Vegas. We drove deep into the night getting as close to Denver as possible. On the way, we ran into a few problems. A western Colorado wine festival booked up every room along the I 70. Then a rock slide closed the I 70. After a harrowing detour through some very challenging roads we finally made it to Glenwood Springs and crashed around 4am.
Our Downtown Denver location was great! The steady breeze made erecting our lightweight foam box quite difficult. Once up though, the box garnered a lot of attention! Dozens of people volunteered to step in and share their thoughts within a few hours. We got enough good content quickly and it afforded us time for a good meal.
Monday is regroup day. The box is in need of some maintenance so it's off to Home Depot for some supplies. After that, it's off to Kansas!

Day 2!
The GITB RV is just east of St. George Utah. Today we were at the Chapel of Little Flowers in Las Vegas. Lots of interesting people passed through the "box". Without question Elvis was the highlight of the day! The King shared his thoughts on God and when he stepped out we all broke into a spontaneous rendition of "Fools Rush In".
We've got miles of tarmac ahead before we reach our next location of downtown Denver. We're shooting for Grand Junction tonight, get up tomorrow and hammer out another 300 miles into town for a an afternoon shoot.
840 miles traveled so far.

Please pass on the info to anyone that may interested in joining us. Please continue to follow our progress. Our website is up and updates with pictures will hopefully be made daily.
