Synopsis
A young Dubliner reflects on recently immigrating to New York City. Exploring such universal themes as nostalgia, the journey and the concept of home, the film includes interviews with ordinary New Yorkers, immigrants and a host of prominent New Yorkers. Liam Neeson, Mike Myers, Susan Sarandon, Alfred Molina, Frank and Malachy McCourt, Pete Hamill, Rosie Perez, Colin Quinn, Fran Lebowitz Elaine Kaufman, David Amram and Drew Nieporent all share their great love for the city they call home. Home is a timely film that reaches the heart of the city and its people today.

In the year 2000, I began to film the city. I began documenting parts of the city I wanted to remember, as they were. But I didn’t see a film. I was nostalgic I suppose. After 9/11, I put it on the shelf. For sure, it was not going to be a film. Four years later, I met Alan Cooke, a recent Irish Immigrant from Dublin. Alan told me HIS story of New York. His story was one of a city in mourning. A city that intimidated him, a city that challenged him and a city that inspired him. Some of the places, experiences and people that Alan felt disconnected to, I recognized as the new city unfolding before me. Perhaps he too was mourning a lost New York, even if it was one he knew only through film and television. We began to discuss New York in a much broader sense and we decided to create OUR story of New York and to set out and discover how other people felt about their New York. We questioned the concept of home. We explored feelings of loss, the importance of letting go of the familiar, of something we call home, of our old selves. The film also explores the hardships of facing oneself in moments of doubt, and realizing that you are never alone, even in a city as vast as New York. The city, the world, and certainly man are truly and ultimately unknowable. But with this film, we have captured a moment in time and a pulse of the most diverse and inspirational city in the world. A city with numerous monuments, landmarks and icons. Too many to name. All built by immigrants and by the sons and daughters of immigrants!

Hi Home,
If I am in NYC in March I will definetly check out your film at BAM. I made a feature called BIRD IN THE SKY here in NYC and though the lost NYC is not the main theme I tryed to capture some of the feeling of the city that I guess are gone forever. GOOD LUCK and congrats!

Dawn, I am pleased that Annie suggested I attend your film. I was
particularly impressed with HOME as the footage revealed a lovely kind a
rythmn with those people being interviewed along with the way the
photography weaved some beautifully composed images with the pensive piano
soundtrack. Thank you. I hope your film does exceptionally well. Your
understanding of New York was well articulated. The comment that has sat
with me for a bit was about ' the synchroncity of the city and making one's
dreams come true'. What a lovely and I think true statement. I wish you

Dawn,
I saw your movie on Thursday evening in West Palm Beach. I loved it, The photography was exceptional. I thought the way the movie flowed from hustle and bustle to quiet and serene gave it great balance. The dialogue brought me to laughter and tears.

"Home" a documentary about New York city in the 21st century. This film is going to touch millions, and it has just begun. Doesn't anyone wonder what is going on with New York City. Does anyone want to remember what New York City is really about, the spirit, its people, the wonder of it all, and of course the magic. Home is a film that will touch on every part of New York City from the visible to the invisible. SEE THIS FILM:

In these times when the people at the top decide what we see, this is a time for the people to decide what they want to see. This is a new era, and the artist can change the rules, actually new rules need to be created. This film is the perfect example of a film that is being ignored because of its true "independent" nature. New York City needs to be seen beyond its trajedies, people still get up here everyday, still bring their spirits to the streets, the tourists still come to look up at

and lyrical.
I can see all the hard work that went into it.
Everyone is so passionate about New York. It becomes a meditation
on place.

You may remember, but I met you and your wife briefly when you were selling her paintings on 5th and 88th - just across from the Guggenheim.....this was a couple of months back........
I am from Dublin also and we were living on 88th and Fifth until a few weeks ago when we returned to London.......when we met you we were chatting about your movie and being away from Ireland in general and the whole New York scene.
Anyway, having just met up with some Irish friends living in London and discussing the fact that we are everywhere, the subject of your movie came up..
Is there any way you could add me to a list and let me know when/if it gets a showing in London - I would hate to miss it...

Simon from W.Palm Beach here. Sorry I have taken
so long to reply but I have been off away from my
office, doing research, and, being a technophobe I
don't have a computer at home!
Anyway, to the film. The production values were
very high. In fact quite amazing if, as you say. there
were only the two of you working on it. Also the music
was well scored and fitted the film extraordinarily
well. That is far more difficult to do than it
appears. Even more specifically while it is certainly
true that picking the topic you did you could do a lot
in natural light, nevertheless the tones etc. were
good...and the camera work, the angles and shot
lengths etc. were excellent. I remember especially one
scene with you walking through it which had a
newspapae blowing on the pavement (cobblestones I
think) and you walking up a slope and spiriling round,

Hi Alan from HOME,
I was delighted that you invited me. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It is
visually and thematically absorbing, and most interviews provide insightful
material. Your words give it the poet's touch and the right mood. I like
that melancholy strain woven throughout.
It's a perennial theme in this country and, as you know, on the mark for
today's climate regarding immigration issues. I just wish I could help you
with distribution but surely you'll be able to get it to the right places.

The film had a beautiful rhythm to it and I believe showed a true New
York, the exciting and the rotten. The interviews were very
compelling, the candor of the subjects was great. I LOVED Fran
Leibowitz esp. Like I said at the screening, I really see a place
for this film outside the city. I think it will be fascinating to
outsiders and is almost a necessary document of the times in this
place. It is a very poignant expression now, and will be an
incredible memoir in the future. The fact that you were able to
express not only your own thoughts and emotions but also those of
many people in this city in such a direct and spiritual way is a
great accomplishment and contribution to community/place/story of ny.
You have provoked thoughts and questions for me in the past few
weeks, which occur to me at any random time and which I hope we can
talk about in person so
