The silent film era of the 1920’s was something I always wanted to explore as a filmmaker. The greats include Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton whose films are still entertaining generations of fans. So, how can you make a film that captures the cinematic beauty of that era? Write a story with kids, ice cream, and a dog. This story is a simple tale of two sisters wanting ice cream on a very hot summer day. With no money in sight, they decide to sell lemonade, and trouble soon follows. For this production, the Bolex camera was used with Kodak 7231 Black and White Plus X Negative Film. This film marries the comic banter of Our Gang with the master genius of Charlie Chaplin’s command of the screen. For this story the children’s faces and expressions were most important. Film was the only way to capture this imagery. During production, there were over half dozen kids, two stray cats, and one dog. Everyone helped out on the set to make this set and lovable film for all to enjoy.
