Film Description:
Synopsis
In the concert style documentary “My Name is Jackie Beat,” we follow a few years in the life of one of today’s most notorious bad “girl” drag performers- Jackie Beat. As we go backstage and become acquainted with Kent Fuher, the man behind “Jackie Beat,” what we see is an incredibly talented performer whose life is ruled by constant doubts and insecurities. As Kent Fuher travels between New York City, Toronto, Los Angeles, Fire Island and then across the Atlantic to Berlin, he constantly questions his life and profession and slowly reveals his personal life experiences. As we accompany Kent from city to city, we come to realize that it is these personal life experiences combined with a keen ability for satire and an innate musical talent that came together to create the incredibly “twisted” character of Jackie Beat. Finally, by the end of the film what we come to realize is that no matter how much he may question his life and career, making people laugh is what he was born to do.

This movie is so great. Sure it is a story of a wasted life and depravity but it is so much more. Actually in all honesty it is a perfect classic story of an entertainer, Jackie beats the hell out of "Dreamgirls", "Showgirls" and "Mahogany"!

Looks interesting... kind of like HEDWIG (hope that is not insulting in any way), which I thoroughly enjoyed. Can't wait to check this film out!

If this is half as good as your live show, this film should be great. I'll be there.

I really appreciated the audience that came to see the film at the Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Even though there were some problems with the theater's projection system (the festival rented a BETA deck and adapted it to the huge theater) which resulted in a really really dark projection of the film, the audience stayed and seemed to enjoy themselves.

The crowd that came to see the film at The Fire Island Film & Video Festival was wonderful. They laughed in all the right places and really seemed to appreciate the film. The Q&A lasted about 1/2 and hour and although I find it so hard to talk in public I tried to answer all their questions as best I could. Where is Jackie Beat (www.jackiebeatrules.com) when I need her????

After Newfest, MY NAME IS JACKIE BEAT! was also invited to screen twice at PIFF The Provincetown International Film Festival. The first screening was the charm. Although it was in the middle of the day, the VIXEN lounge was full and I can't tell you how excited I was to see that none other than JOHN WATERS showed up to see the film. After the screening, he congratulated me and told me he "loved" the film. I hope to GOD he wasn't just being polite.

The Premiere at NEWFEST 2006 (www.newfest.org) was a huge success. The 350 seat theater at the AMC Lowes megaplex on 34th Street was completely sold out with people standing and sitting all up and down the isles. It was great to see the theater so full with Jackie Beat fans, friends, family and even NYC Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and her security detail. During the Q&A, Jackie Beat grabbed the microphone and entertained the audience with a hilarious Q&A session that did a better job than I could ever have of explaining to everyone there exactly why I chose to do a whole documentary about her. Later that night, Misstress Formika (who also appears in the film) threw an after party at Club AREA 10018 where Jackie Beat again took the stage and performed some of her signature song parodies. All in all, I could not have been happier with the result.
