Synopsis

THE YOGIS OF INDIA ARE CONFRONTED WITH A CHAOTIC WORLD AS THEY PILGRIMAGE FROM THE HIGH HIMALAYAS TO THE MOST HOLY ANCIENT FESTIVAL. THESE SAGES GIVE UP ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WORLDLY TO BECOME ONE WITH THE DIVINE. FOLLOW SHIV RAJ GIRI AS HE PASSES ON THE 5,000 YEAR OLD TRADITIONS TO HIS TWO YOUNG DISCIPLES. FOLLOW THE JOURNEIES OF SANTOSH GIRI, WHO IS FOURTEEN YEARS OLD, AND WILL RECEIVE THE FINAL INITIATION, AND RAMAN GIRI, WHO IS DOING AN EXTREME AUSTERITY TO GET CLOSER TO GOD - BY STANDING FOR TWELVE YEARS. Naked In Ashes chronicles the Yogis of India, including 14-year-old Santosh Giri who follows his teacher Shiv Raj Giri in probing the deepest mysteries of life on a 6000-year-old Path. The Yogis leave all worldly things to quest for the Divine and travel barefoot in the snow on pilgrimage from the high Himalayas to the holiest festival to wash themselves in the waters of immortality.

SEE this film! You will not believe the cinematography and the incredible perspective the filmaker gives you. An amazing walk through a spiritual experience and lifestyle like none other. You'll love the music and you'll become entranced by the young boy and his life choices.

This is an extraordinary documentary that keeps you interested the entire length. It's informative as well as personable because it delves into the life of Shiv Raj Giri and his followers. I've been to India many times and have gone to some of the holy places the yogis frequent but this film gave me a broader perspective of the life of the Yogi. It is well done and I recommend it highly. I've watched it at least 5 times and want to see it again. I give it ***** (5) Stars.
