Ratsnitch Angel Trailer

A trailer for the film. Okay, i'll admit, it's not the best trailer ever. Hey, it's hard to make a trailer for a film that's only two minutes long. Especially since the film will look very different due to the 1.5D effect/red glasses effect. But this at least gives you an idea of the type of film it is. It ain't your 'slow, nothing really happens, and then the main character learns something about themselves' kinda film.

Tonight's the big night. The Ratsnitch Angel's premiering this evening at 7:15pm, same time as Inland Empire (gee, thanks for the competition, Mr. Lynch). I just dropped off the glasses to some of the helpful staff members, did a quick interview and now I get to sit and wait with my crossed fingers and toes for a good show. Why did I drink all that coffee?

I just uploaded the trailer for The Ratsnitch Angel. All 15 seconds of it. Trust me, the film is much better.

Yesterday I saw an amazing Danish film, The Art Of Crying. It was a gorgeous cinematography, beautifully acted, fiendishly twisted story. The storytelling was handled very simply and realistically, which I'm hearing is common among Danish films. Hopefully I'll get to meet the filmmakers during the fest.

The hilight of the evening was Inland Empire, David Lynch's new film. If you didn't already know, he's been a huge inspiration for me. Someone must have known that, because I got assigned a seat right up in front. The film was...really hard to pin down actually. There were moments of brilliance mixed with moments of total confusion. The story was really hard to follow (much more-so than Mullholland Dr. and Lost Highway) making it's ~3 hour length a bit of an endurance test for some.
It's too early for me to judge. I was dissapointed with Lost Highway at first, then upon second-viewing I really liked it. I'm going to have to give this one a second chance when it gets theatrical release.

So this is day 3 (or is it 4?) of the fest. A lot has happened already. The opening night gala featuring Bobby (directed by emilio estevez) really blew me away. Half of the star-studded cast showed up that night, as well as the mayor (yes the mayor of los angeles) to kick off the festival.

Bobby is of course about Bobby Kennedy and the people that were affected by his assassination. Nice work Emilio. Following that, most of the audience walked across the street to the Roosevelt Hotel to party and hob-nob with enough celebs to make even the most jaded los angelino star-struck. Way to go AFI, you really know how kick off a festival.

Welcome to the withoutabox audience page for The Ratsnitch Angel. It's a pretty unique short film which recently got into AFI Fest 2006. Rather than write about the film itself, I'm going to try to use this blog to focus on my experiences at the festival. I'm not much of a blogger, so bare with me.
