Rotten Feature Film Treatment May 23, 2006 06:30PM
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The FEATURE LENGTH SCRIPT of Rotten is COMPLETED, EDITED, and available for consideration.

After being shot, Ben Stutsman, a top man for a local crime family, and father to be, wants out. When his wife, Anna, is kidnapped to teach Stutz a lesson, and the mysteries of his past unravel, he’s forced to do what he does best. Everyone involved soon realizes that getting out comes with a very high price indeed.

NOTES:
The feeling I will lend to Rotten as a feature is very close to the feeling the short imparts. It’s a fast pace, dark and violent journey the viewer takes with Stutz, who is bent on getting out from under the mob’s thumb and subsequently unraveling a past that he’s had very little part in shaping.

I have built this film simply to entertain. The target audience is male, between 18 and 35. I want to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, guessing at the next move both the hero and the opposition will make, and in the meantime entertaining with gunfights. In the end I want the viewer to think the hero has settled for something less then a hero must, and then BAMM we take them home…

Although the short is shot in black and white, I don’t think this is necessary for the feature (although it could be interesting). I WOULD choose a medium that has a harsh edge (perhaps HD with some intense post, color correction a la Wolf Creek, or 35 with an intense filter scheme) to give an immediacy and intensity. I want it to be haunting yet believable. I think the duality of urban and rural settings is intriguing and add to the story line, so I would keep every bit of it.

UNLIKE the short, the feature has much more character development. In the feature I have attempted to impart to the viewer (based on the characters past) the reasons this individual is able to do what he does and why he’s justified in doing so. The viewer is then able to enjoy the violence with little concern for those that die at our hero’s hand.

I plan on bringing to the screen a much more intense and fleshed out story then the short, and at the same time I plan on doing exactly the same thing I did with the short… to consider what the audience would find compelling and exciting EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. At page sixty I want to nothing more then to deceive them, to confuse them, and to make them positive there’s no way out. The, once again….resolution… now go home… tell your friends…

Rotten Feature May 22, 2006 09:56AM
The feature length screenplay has been edited and is now waiting patiently for it’s chance to be a real life film…Sit, down, roll over… good script.
The waiting game... May 22, 2006 09:53AM
Rotten has been submitted to 16 film fests thus far, and will be going out to three or four more before all’s said and done. It’s gonna be a long summer waiting to hear from these fests but hey, 99% of everything in life is anticipation right? I’ll be adding in a few songs that Farfalla has given me the rights to use so when (and if) Rotten hits the festivals it will have more bang for the buck… thanks to anyone who comments and adds themselves to the film as friends…

It's hard to believe this film is one of the first works by Eric because of its professional look. The gasps of the audience at the end are very satisfying.

Rotten is an amazing vision that came to life. I am very impressed with all of the small elements and fine tuning that makes this short much more than that.. Eric has worked very hard to make this happen and through his direction the idea became reality... I can't wait to see the feature... Keep rollin'... MONTY
