Film Description:
Synopsis
For two sisters, the bathroom is a private theater for confused romantic role-playing, mirror confessions, and talking to yourself in the tub. It is a workshop for constructing a more perfect identity. And constructing your identity is serious, painstaking work. It requires time, commitment, and shelter from the probing intrusions of siblings and family. Curtains must be drawn. Doors must be sealed. And covert, confidential rituals must be performed, rehearsed, and perfected. Hiding and spying reveal undiscovered symmetry between the playtime fantasies of a twelve-year-old girl and the romantic preparations of her older sister. 'Something Rubber, Something Glue' charts the savagery of sibling warfare over the only bathroom in the house – and the psychological impact when one girl discovers the other’s secret.

The creative but subtle use of light lulls you into the dream state of the film's main character as does the writer/director's patience with her characters' emotional explorations. An engaging film. I hope to see more from this writer/director.
The creative use of light as a metaphor for the sweet, bright innocence of girlhood was masterful. The screenwriter/director captures the brief moments before a girl becomes a young woman and heightens this time with subtle light changes and shadows. The dialogue and action was true. This film reflects a writer/director who is sophisticated and artistic and one who has a deep understanding of human behavior. jeannejd
Haunting and extraordinarily subtle. This short gem has it all -- concept, impact, and consistent technical sophistication. Can't wait to see more and longer pieces by this filmmaker.
