Film Description:

Synopsis

Tales of Times Square is a film based on the cult classic book by author Josh Alan Friedman. The film chronicles the young writers experiences during the 70’s when Times Square reached the height of it’s raunchy reputation. At age 25, he arrives on the Square with only his Royal typewriter, and checks into a $5 flophouse on West 47th Street. As he struggles to make ends meet, the author writes sex club reviews for various porn magazines. He becomes a sex journalist, making weekly rounds to the porn palaces, Burlesque houses, and peep shows. This leads to a life changing career move as a reporter for Screw magazine where he becomes drawn to the people and stories around “the old forty deuce”. For him, Times Square held a multitude of secrets – behind the closed doors, and in the darkest corners, he is compelled to document these times before they disappear forever. As he begins digging deeply into the stories of Times Square’s past and present, he realizes that what he is investigating is going to change his life forever.

There will never be another place on earth like Times Square during the height of its sleaze days. Now that the XXX theaters, massage parlors, pimps and hookers have been driven out, their absence can be strongly felt, leaving a gap filled today only by a Disney-dominated corporate sanitation job. If you remember the "Times Scare" of yesteryear, and even miss it a bit, then you will definitely enjoy this film.
