Synopsis
The Giving What is it like to give up your child? This emotionally powerful documentary chronicles the difficult journeys of five women from the time they learn of their pregnancy to the signing of adoption papers. The Giving explores how and why these women make what is perhaps the most difficult decision a mother could face. Pulling their stories from the shadows of society, this film shatters the myth of the careless, abandoning birthmother, and reveals, once again, that courage and selflessness are found in the most unassuming places.

Ratings
Extremely moving...the music worked exceptionally well with the narrative; the angles and lighting were superb, and the recap of "where they are now" was exceptional. All birth mothers needed someone to tell this story..they owe you a great debt.
Moving, insightful, superbly edited, and masterfully composed. Thank you, Mary, for sharing this vision with us.
This film gives us a powerful insight into the lives and hearts of those who give so unselfishly. A true gift of sharing of the human spirit and tender emotion of motherhood. The film provides a perspective of adoption that is rarely acknowledged and yet so beautifully presented.
"The Giving" is as gentle as the softest touch of a mother's fingertips and just as powerful.
A touching piece that should be mandatory viewing for high school students and those struggling with the possibility of giving a child up for adoption. I was drawn in from start to finish and when it was over, I was different...better.
Very poignant, should be seen by every adoptive family, birth mothers, and adopted children
This film has changed my perception of birth mothers and their selfless act of giving their child up for adoption. A child is the best gift one woman can give another woman. Powerful and sensitive at the same time. A must see!
This is truly the most amazing movie I have ever seen. WOW! I never would have understood what these mothers go through.

This movie is a labor of love. How gracefully created and edited it shows the selfless acts that these women endure. It breakes the stigma that it placed on the issue of birthmothers by socity and shows true acts of love and the hope that it can bring to famlies struggling to be complete. I believe it should be a intricate part of every Planned Parenthood facility in America.
