Film Description:

Synopsis

The World of the End is a drama about a young woman’s first few hours after being fired from corporate America. Madison Shuster is in her twenty-fifth year, out of a job, left to fend for herself and right on target for disaster. If the shame of asking her parents for a bail-out wasn’t enough, Madison knows the first thing she’s going to hear is comparisons to her older sister Sofie, a successful business owner with a doctor husband and an impressive Manhattan address. (Madison’s last accomplishment was summoning the courage to stop crying about losing her mindless clerical job.) Her parents aren’t in when she reaches home, so Madison bums around a bit, coming across a few relics of happier, more hopeful times. Suddenly, she’s interrupted by a phone call. High-strung Sofie’s apparently been under more pressure than she’s let on, and has crashed on the job; she’s recovering at a nearby hospital, and needs Madison to rally round. While waiting in a parking lot to be picked up to visit Sofie, Madison comes across a mysterious young man in a red convertible. He, too, is on the threshold between adolescence and adulthood, and has few successes to show for his age. But he has wisdom and comfort to offer Madison, and she gradually comes to accept that, as bad today's been, it’s not the end of the world... but something else entirely.

Damn their warnings, damn their lies Mar 03, 2007 02:27PM
"TWOTE" is playing at the Big Damn Film Festival on March 11 during their stop in Madison, WI. Yes I did deliberately send this to a city that has the same name as the protagonist. Yes I do have a life.

At long last I am a real filmmaker. Got my very first Sundance rejection ever today!

"The World of the End" will be playing at the Spirit of Humanity Festival to benefit New Orleans post-Katrina. They got the title wrong on the Web site but we are working to fix that.

Woohoo! First film fest hear-back (Route 66 FF) and it's a no. This is the third time in a row a film of mine hasn't gotten into its first fest, and each of the previous two won at least one award in the end, so I'm not too worried. I have started a more active miniblog of my festival activities on the forums at np2k.com if you're that interested.
Bored, so I'll blog Jul 12, 2006 09:15AM
I'm currently between 'day jobs'... finished a logging gig on a documentary feature last week. Everyone's entitled to a little fun. In theory I shall hear from a festival as early as the end of this month. I have a few hear-backs, some of a good chunk of significance, due in August. It's this first period of waiting that's the toughest... after a while things become staggered more evenly. Sometimes you get the urge to tweak and change and DO something with your project, because you're so used to working on it that you can't adjust to life afterwards. So I'm just trying to keep up-to-date with festivals, see what's going on. I sent an envelope off just yesterday. It never ends.
The first two blog entries  Jun 29, 2006 07:12PM
I put these on my filmmaker page rather than the TWOTE page. I'm stupid. Anyway, head on over to http://www.guyinhisbasement.com/theworldoftheend if you're intrigued.

After a fair amount of fighting with my beloved computer Ariel, a large stack of DVDs has been burned. Envelopes have been stuffed. Credit card numbers have been typed.

The first round of festival submissions go out tomorrow for the princely sum of $430. Wow.

It'd be more except Sundance doesn't open till Monday, heh.

Jun 21:

Today I completed "The World of the End". It runs 19:21 and it's pretty much what I wanted out of the flick.

Now what?
