Synopsis

An emotional portrait of the artist's often distant relationship with his father with glimpses into his father's similar childhood relationship. A meticulously hand crafted animation asking the difficult question: What do we really inherit? What do we really pass on? How do we bridge the solemn divide of generations? Animated over a year and a half, the film integrates home video from the artist's childhood, old family photographs, and new footage, and interviews with his father and grandfather into an unfolding story of loss, loneliness, and our desire for connection and intimacy with our fathers.

Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at Cannes Aug 29, 2006 05:11PM

So, here's a wonderful little bit of news. Because Unwilled Inheritance won 1st prize for Animation at NextFrame: UFVA's Touring Festival of Student Film and Video, Unwilled Inheritance and I will be featured at the Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes International Film Festival in May of 2007. TWO NEW FESTIVALS Jul 16, 2006 05:25PM

Unwilled Inheritance has recently been selected by NextFrame, the UFVA's touring showcase of student film and video, and to Independant Film Forum, an internet festival juried by the public. Vote for Unwilled Inheritance at www.independantfilmforum.com. Unfortunately, it was not selected by the 60th Edinburgh International Film Festival, of which Sean Connery is patron. I hold him personally responsible.

Festival Nomination Jul 11, 2006 08:05PM

Unwilled Inheritance has just been nominated to the FilmGate International Student Film Festival and I'm thrilled. I'm afraid that I wont be able to make it to FilmGate or Crested Butte, but I'll be there in spirit. Special thanks to everyone who has helped me go this far, especially Meghan McCutcheon, and my father and grandfather.

So this is it, the first hurdle for my labor of love: Unwilled Inheritance has been selected to be shown at the Crested Butte Reel Fest as of yesterday afternoon. I'm afraid I won't be in attendance, but my girlfriend will be there.
