EUROPA PRIZE 2004 BLINDNESS AS YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT ! What are the images that one has in one’s mind when one can almost or no longer see ? How can one support life when the day, the light, the bearings, the shapes disappear ? The characters of this film, all being blind or partially sighted teach us that images are not visual. They are also sound and touch. They are infinite games between imagination, memory and discovery. John, a university professor has had no light sensation for 20 years ; Sylvie is a voice teacher and a sculptor who lives with only 5% of visual field ; Aladji lost his vision as child and beats records of speed for track competitions ; little Sarina barely sees colors and shapes and nevertheless... they all SEE, but differently ! They take us to the limit of the visual on a sensorial trip explaining and making us feel what they do not see ! By the creative use of a wide range of techniques to transcribe the inner world of those beautiful humain beings, the film offers a very strong experience. In an unique and so graceful way this programme, not only helps viewers imagine what it is like to be blind, but above all leads them to a philosophical reflection on how to perceive our reality.
