Hey Man!
I'm fine! Last Saturday I entered our toy dog in the 3rd Annual Carnivale of the Dogs in Philly..a lotta FUN ! On Sept. 11th I learned that my short will be screening from Sept. 7th thru Sept 30,2007 at the Los Angeles County Fair Showcase, a part of The Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival.
I am very happy about this exposure. In July I played a frantic husband in NJN Public TV's EMS Training Video.Auditioning for more commercial work .I was going to shoot a short 5 or 10 minute video this Fall to accompany the Flash Mc Cool Theme Song (The Cool Song) but haven't had the time or focus .
Also met with Ramesh Anthony last week & he's considering me for a part in his short entitled, Candy. I promised to help him on weekends this Sept. thru Oct.I see you stay connected with the network.Any new projects on your end ? Keep healthy..stay strong & talented !
All the Best,

What's up Donnie, Im glad that your doing something on Oscar Brown JR. I opened for him and hosted his show in Atlanta back in 1999 at the Culture Club. Plus I performed during his interview with Good Morning Atlanta, while Sonja Sonchez and Phyllis Stickney were also on the show, talking about their stage plays for Jomandi Productions. I hosted an open mic Poetry Slam during their series of plays. I still have a poster with Oscar Brown JR. and Sonja Sonchez that they autographed. I told Oscar that i wanted to be like him when i grow up and he said "no my brother, all you have to do is just be yourself".

PRESS RELEASE –
UPDATE ON “MUSIC IS MY LIFE, POLITICS MY MISTRESS:
THE STORY OF OSCAR BROWN JR.”

November 26, 2006
Denver, CO
Contact: donnie l. betts

donnie l. betts and his film Music Is My Life Politics My Mistress are highlighted in an article in Documentary Magazine (formerly IDA – International Documentary Association Magazine) for his groundbreaking work on the definitive film on American Icon, poet, playwright, author, composer, and Civil Rights Activist Oscar Brown Jr. The film, which has shown at over 20 film festivals and garnered 10 awards, continues to make strides in the film community. Reviews have called the film “outstanding”, “ground-breaking”, “brilliant”, “witty” and “often funny” to name a few. The article can be founding the November/December 2006 issue of Documentary Magazine under “Docs for Arts’ Sake” under the heading “Oscar and Sam” by Christopher Bosen.

DVD AVAILABLE late February 2007!!!

The DVD for“Music is My Life, Politics My Mistress”will be available in late February 2007. Thanks to all who have made your pre-paid purchase, and thanks for your patience. After spending six years making the film I do have patience. We had hoped that we would have enough orders by now that you would have it (DVD) in your hot little hands, but we need at least another 150 orders to start the duplication process. Plus we are adding new materials so we have had to purchase additional rights which has taken longer and added more cost that we budgeted for. After producing this film I have learned to pay as I go, so we should have all the rights taken care of in December. I hate to disappoint everyone who wanted to have the DVD in time to give as a gift for the holidays but it just won’t be ready. You are no more disappointed than I am but it is a lot more involved than I anticipated because of the music and having to meet PBS deadlines. Please visit the website www.musicismylife.info or call 1-866-966-1390 or dlbetts@nocredits.com to place your order if you have not done so already, and encourage your friends and colleagues to do so as well. Remember $25 for DVD or $50 for DVD/CD plus S/H

PBS AIRING
We are scheduled to air an abbreviated version of the film on PBS stations nationally in February 2007. Please encourage your local stations to carry the film. You can contact your local PBS station by going to www.PBS.org. There are also underwriting opportunities available. Please contact me directly for more information.

FINALLY…

I have just come back from very successful screenings in Calgary, Alberta and Prague, Czech Republic. We are looking forward to screening in Chicago at the Field Museum on the 17th of February and a DVD release party at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City, CA on the 25th of Feb, plus Tucson, AZ., and Nashville, TN., New York and hopefully a city near you!

Thanks to all, for your support.

Hi! Our film FALL TO GRACE will run for a week in Atlanta opening July 7. Can you give me any tips on where to post to get audience in Atlanta? Our film has an incredible score and characters that appeal to both 20'somethings and 50'somethings. Are there any e-mail newsletters, etc that serve the independent film going community? Thanks in advance for any help!

thanks for adding me to your friends. the filmmaking community in the A is growing which is great because there is plenty of talent here. I tried to view your trailer but it was taking too long and it's late. I'll try again later and then get back to you. I'll have a trailer up in the next week.

Hey. So I watched the Cellies trailer today. It looks funny, and it's a very clever topic. You're right cell phones are taking over the world. :)

Hi Blacktrack,

Try uploading your movie onto www.youtube.com. It will give you a link to your movie that you can post and some code along with it for you to place it onto a page also. Also, to post a link use this code (minus the periods): text for the link here

So I tried to watch the trailer yet again. I even downloaded firefox because I thought Internet Explorer might be having a problem on my machine, but still it froze my computer. I got some sound before it froze, but never got a picture. It might be that I don't have enough space on my system. I'm getting a new machine in a couple of weeks so I might have to try to watch it then. I do have access to another machine. I'll try to see it this week and let you know.
