This is the first 16MM I ever did. It was a cold day but we had fun. I knew that I was going to be doing film for the rest of my life. We shot in Prospect Park and by the end of the shoot , the park rangers came over to bother us. He even threatened that they would take my camera. You would have read about that in the newspapers had they tried that.

Gail Rorant has been with our organization since it began. She continues to work with us every chance she gets. It is Gail who is in charge of the fashion show that we will be doing on Sat. 6/17/06. All the kids in this film are in the featre film Thug Kidz. Gail is a former top model and a single mother of two boys.

The Kids include Tajah Parham Cagle, Kenyae Cagle, Precious Parham Cagle and Andre Shanks. Antonio Genn who stars in several of our films plays the stranger.

The Kids Never Cease to Amaze Me      Jun 07, 2006 04:23AM
Star (Makita Lamont) and Splash (Craig Brewster) are picked up by police (William Frederick) for questioning in the motion picture Thug Kidz

We had a business meeting last night and one of our actresses 16 year old Makita Lamont sat in. Her eyes were sparkling and her ears stood up as she listened intensely to every word that came out the mouths of each of us. There were times when I thought she had wanted to speak but she did not. Makita is playing Star. Star is a character that gets blamed for murder in the film. Her character is mouthy and bratty. Makita seems shy.

It wasn't until the meeting was over that our production manager informed us that Makita had a surprise. She had writtten lyrics for the film and wanted to perform them for us. We sat back down, amused and curious. Ayanna introduced her and the she started rapping her Thug Kids song. Everyone seemed impressed as her song went deep into the her character in the film. It described her fears, hopes and dreams.

A few weeks ago my seven year old star Khalle Fredericks also performed a song his mother wrote for him. At that time I was surprised too. My question to myself is 'why I am always surprised by these young people?'. They are very talented and creative. I walk on the set and I see things happening that I never even thought of. I see them flushing out the characters as any well trained professional would. I see them working hard, non stop, struggling and hungry as we go through long hours of rehearsles. I see the film coming together.

But even more important than that is I see development and growth from them already. I see them maturing in front of my very eyes. I see them bonding and working. For myself I am also growing. I'm learning alot about young people. I'm learning how my teachers at JHS 35 must have felt as they worked with us. In that school we acted and went on the road in our shows. I never understood why they cared so much. But now I do. These kids are amazing. I wish the best for each of them as they grow up. Ayana Gabriel (Renee), Khalle Frederick (Phillip) and Jermaine Gabriel (Ty) rehearse for Thug Kidz

The kids were on television Saturday 6/3/06 at the local television station BCAT. The show comes on at 10:00 AM on Cablevision ch. 34 and Time Warner ch. 67. The show features cast members Tajah Parham Cagle, Precious Parham Cagle and Jermaine Gabriel. Ayanna Gabriel is also featured on the show. They actually talk about their up and coming film Father Dad. Thug Kidz is an off shoot of Father Dad. Father Dad premieres this Father's day June 18th at 2:00PM at the pioneer theatre located at 155E 3rd St. NYC. The number is 800 595-4849.

Thug Kidz is actually my 16th film since 2003 and it is my 4th feature film. I am having a great time working with the children in this film. Their ages are 6 - 18. These young people show up on time and are ready to work all the time. They know their lines. We work them sometimes eight hours and no one has complained, not once. This is going into the third week of rehearsal and normally it is around this time that the grumbling start to take place. Even the adult in this film are on good behavior.

I left Thursday nights rehearsal jacked out of my mind. There is a scene where the kids attempt to talk to an adult about a murder that happened in their community and the adult peppers them with insults. The kids remain calm and continue their investigation. It is almost as if a role reversal has happened. The adult (played by Patricia Greenidge) finds herself frustrated and out smarted by these little people whom she actually refer to as bastards.

Andre Shanks gives a powerful performance as Monte, the leader of the group Thug Kidz. He is supported by his pals Ty (Jermaine Gabriel) and his little brother Phillip (Khalle Fredericks), Leeballs (Kenyae Cagle)and Splash(Craig Brewster). The Kidz relate to each other quite well and a real bond is starting to form between them. The girls of Thug Kidz also participate in the action. They are Star (Makada Lamont), Frankie (Tajah Parham Cagle) and Blackie. Star is the most fiestiest of all the Thug Kidz. She takes no stuff and is ready to fight at the drop of a dime. She is picked up by the police and accused of the murder of a local proprietor. Not even the police are ready for the can of worms they open when one of them decides to strike her. Before their ride to the precint is over, they sincerely regret bothering this young lady.

Each rehearle ends with a prayer and the young people lead the prayers during Thug Kidz. It never ceases to amaze me when they speak to the Lord and the things they say or ask of him. It is intense, it is deep, it is refreshing. Often their prayers are for the world and not just for Caglevision or themselves.

Thug Kidz is going to open this summer around the end of August beginning of September. We're planning on doing everything we can to make it a special time for the young people. Their premiere will be an afternoon premiere and their party will be filled with hotdogs, franks, potato chips and all the stuff we normally tell them to stay away from. We're looking for a clown/magician to perform and host the events for our Thug Kidz who are certainly no thugs. We're also looking for a young speaker to come and give them a motivational lecture. Face painting, balloons and maybe a few rides will also add a special touch to the premiere.

Like many of the films before this, we plan on showing Thug Kidz all around the world. Our first target after the premiere will be the local festivals followed by domestic and international. We'll then bring it back to the states to set it up for sales through out the dvd market.

Things are moving so well with the film that I plan on moving up the shoot dates. The adults work and assist with the children. This Saturday, we had an awesome rehearsle and celebrated Kenyae's birthday at the same time. I believe thiss will be one of the best kids' film since The Little Rascals.
First Music Video Jun 04, 2006 02:48PM
My first music video was produced in late 2002. I was attending the New York Film Academy in New York. Out of my entire class, I was the only one to get their film in on time. This fact was mentioned at my graduation. I have since never been late on a film schedule (eventhough I set my own). I usually shoot my (feature) films in 7 days or less.

At the time I was shooting in 16MM black & white. Some of my actors came in from North Carolina. We had a great time and shot this video in 18hrs. Anisha Generrio would go on to cast several more of Caglevision films and currently casts for many independent film companies. It was a great experience. We filmed it at my home in Brentwood, Long Island.

I loved my crew with Shanon and Craig as my base. Unfortunately after school, we we have not worked together. Craig was a great writer and came up with great ideas and Shannon was unbelievable in working the camera and putting things together. Shannon is a teacher and Craig works for a small Jewish community organization.

So please enjoy this music video with North carolina recording star Secory Cordel.

Thug Kidz May 21, 2006 05:54PM
We are currently in production for our newest film Thug Kidz. You can’t judge a book by its cover but that is just what they did when we were kids. Thug Kids is about my life, growing up and trying to survive in the ghetto of Bedford Stuyvesant. It attempts to answer the questions why we are judged the way we are. Why did the cops pick me and Star up two to three times a month for no reason. Why did they search our bags and threaten to do bodily harm to us repeatedly. Why were elderly people always walking away fast or women clutch harder to their pocket books as we past them? Why is it we were never given fair chances but always had to go the extra mile to get the same rewards as anyone else. We finally got so used to it that we expect to be treated unfairly at each turn. What did it do to our psych? How did it affect us?

This film explores the psychological implications of treating a group of people unfairly and how the human spirit is able to rise to the occassion to overcome all obstacles. The movie will be filmed in Bedford Stuyvesant on the very same block and the park where these injustices took place.

The movie stars teenagers from these neighborhoods who states that they are still victims of this discrimination that takes place. Their performances are powerful and will make for a good film. The movie will premiere this summer.
Betrayal May 19, 2006 07:24PM
Betrayal

Tammy is married to the mob. Her husband Joe is a ruthless, lousy, cheating, two timing mobster who takes everything for granted including Tammy. Tammy’s suburban, secluded life has lead her to fantasize of a new home and husband. She has also found a new career interest. She wants to be the first woman to head a mob family. Faced with insurmountable challenges, Tammy’s indominable will is put to the test as she begins to climb the gangster ladder of success. She is near acheiving her dream but there is only one thing in her way. To head the mob she must eliminate her biggest competition, her ruthless husband. Tammy has neither the strength nor the manpower to go up against him. However she tries anyway and finds out that the only way she could beat the organization is by using her mind. The battle is on and there is no turning back.

Unlike many mob stories, Betrayal is a story of a broken family. The family unit is seen deteroiating as her husband spends more time at work than he does home. Tammy is a scorned woman who is helpless against the powerful mob boss. She decides she is abused enough and empowers herself by coming up with her own goals and dreams separate from her husband’s. This causes conflict in the home. Tammy decides that her best revenge against Joe is to succeed on her own at HIS business.

Betrayal has the perfect foundation to succeed, a good script. Producer Kenya Cagle has a rock solid record having produced 14 films in the last three years including music videos, documentaries, shorts and four features. Two of his shorts as well as three of his four features are already award winning motion pictures. His current feature Father Dad opened in New York on June 16, 2006 at the Two Boots Pioneer Theatre to a sold out crowd. It was screened in Long Beach California at The Action On Film International Film Festival July 28 - 30, 2006. On August 26, 2006 Kenya's fourth film "Thug Kidz" premieres at The Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn located at 1368 Fulton Street. Showtimes are 6:00PM and 8:00PM.Tixs can be purchased by calling 631 764-6466.

    Hi there,
I haven't been on the site in a few days so I didn't see your message until now. Yes, my film was in a festival in Atlanta so you might have seen it, but we didn't meet because unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it.

Email me to remind me about the Long Beach Festival. I would love to come and see your film and maybe get together for lunch.

On your trailer for Goodnight Charlie, it is difficult to hear what the people are saying at the beginning because the music is too loud. It sounds like you turned it down some but it is still difficult to hear.

It looks like you have some really interesting films. Keep it up and good luck!

    Hi again,
Your trailer and movie were both very interesting. I do have a suggestion or two though: try filming in 16:9 (BAM, instant cinematic feel). Also, try to use panning and zooming less and use camera angle changes more. The zooming and panning can make a movie look unprofessional.

By the way, what program did you use to edit?

Thanks a whole lot Caglevision for watching my film. Yes, I am submitting my movie to various film festivals, including Filmgate International, Hawaii International, Coney Island International, and Westwood International. This is my first time ever submitting anything to a festival, and honestly my first work that I was ever proud of.

Thank you gator boy. Betrayal is one of the best pieces I've written to date. During the reading the selected audience responded quite well. I am looking forward to going into production at the end of the year with this film. I love film with action, passion, great characters and a good story line. This screenplay has it all and I'm hoping to bring it some justice when we send it to the big screen.

Currently we're working on getting some known performers attached to this project as well as director. We will also use our regular performers who are seen throughout Caglevision's films.

There are several messages that I'm hoping to get across in this film. They are subtle yet powerful and thought provoking. It has a great ending with a twist. Who could ask for anything more?

I am intrigued by the human element of "Betrayal". It sounds like you have a potentially riviting combination of action and emotion; the outer turmoil of mob life lending itself to the more personal, breaking apart of family. I will be interested in how you tie the story together in the end and what message you hope to further with this cause.
