Rob Squads
Nov 07, 2006 10:04AM
So I think I'm going to start in earnest looking for a Producer for my tale of the rob squad. I was thinking of starting by shooting some scenes--maybe the scenes I have excerpted in the galleries. I know some actors, but I could know some more. I don' t really know someone right for the part of Jim Camel but I know people who can play Charlie--at least for the time being. Locations shouldn't be too difficult either. I wrote this script with ease of location in mind. Of course, there is the trash truck contraption at the end of the script--that would take a few bucks to pull off realistically. I have a character named Terrance Gerard. It's a vehicle for my buddy Gerard Christopher who played Superboy for four years on TV.
Terrance Gerard is a Private Detective specializing in recovering rare automobiles. In his first adventure he recovers a rare Ferrari from Kuwait on the eve of Iraq's Invasion (I wrote this quite a long time ago). It ends with the Ferrari launching from a ramp and landing on an aircraft carrier--a minor item in the film's budget, no?

Blake sits behind me. He's taking a screenwriting class at UCLA. I did this in 1998. The program cost 3 grand and lasted a year. There were definitely some highlights. Al Ruddy talked for an hour--anyone with a chance to hear him talk about his life in the industry will really enjoy it. Another highlight was the teacher who was a writer for Remington Steele. Jim Schmerer was another great guy. The kind of writer who had been employed off and on for a long time. Then there was Robin. No one else epitomizes lousy screenwriting professors like this guy. Let's start with the Razzie he won for penning "On Deadly Ground". As it turns out "On Deadly Ground" was meant to be a serious Farley Mowat style flick and not the Steven Seagul action masterpiece that was produced. Robin had a lot to say and directed a lot of it at me. Now that I think about it, there was another screenwriting professer there who was even worse than Robin. I transferred out of that guy's class after one session. He flat out sucked, but had some good advice on how to write a film that would flat-out suck.
At the time I was writing about a guy who was attempting to fly around the world in a balloon. This was a big deal at the time because it hadn't been done. But in 2000 or sometime after the great Dick Rutan accomplished this amazing feat!

featured member territory. yeah...baby. i like it. i remember when it was 1995 and I was taking a screenwriting class at UC Riverside. A friend worked for Final Draft and got me a copy for 60 bucks. But I was so ticked off when I tried it because I could do the same things in Word Perfect. So I took it back. Ben Cohen, the head of the company, processed the refund himself. I actually think Final Draft is a great program, but I still use Word.
Word.
Word.

Visit Kevin Gage.net and check out the work of an exciting actor.
I realized since I posted a blog about HEAT and Kevin Gage's Waingro character, that it's appropriate to say few more words about a really awesome actor!
HEAT

I admit it. Heat was a big influence in writing "Girlfriend Experience". There's a character in that film called Waingro. I visualize Charlie McBall as being like that. But Heat was released a long time ago and I wrote "Girlfriend Experience" late last year.
Initially, the story focused on two hustlers and the conflict between them. I wasn't getting anywhere with the story, so I set it aside.
I worked on another project instead--Doc. Doc is the story of a massive crime wave that hit the US after WWII and its impact on a young kid living today. It is a supernatural thriller. I think there's a lot of material in this story. Too much. I was 30 pages into writing the script and realized I had enough juicy material for a novel or a longer film...I didn't want to write a big, long story. I wanted to write a short one.
A character in the Doc story really captured my imagination. His name was Charlie McBall. I started to hash out the character some more and delve into the prison lore which Charlie is apart of and decided he was the guy I was looking for to make the Girlfriend Experience story possible.
Jim Camel is another character in "Girlfriend Experience". This guy is based on a real person. The mixture of Charlie McBall and Jim Camel really brought the story together because they are two different types of people.
Lastly, "Girlfriend Experience" is based on my own initial reaction to finding erotic services posted on the internet. My immediate reaction was "These are scammers!"
The world portrayed in Girlfriend Experience is more real than fiction, but some creative license is taken--the real lives of prostitute scammers is pretty grim. People like that need help, so these characters and situations are a little dressed up for the screen.
As a writer, the best part about "Girlfriend Experience" is the part that I get to write next--the characters of Jim and Charlie are interesting enough to provide for a world of conflict. At least three films worth.
GFE Script Excerpts in the Gallery

Furthering my attempt to use Audience as a showpiece for my feature film script "Girlfriend Experience" I've posted some pages from the script into the gallery section. These are out of order, but that's just an issue with uploads. Maybe a sort function is needed.
Ok, so the story goes, Charlie McBall is out of prison and wants to get his life on track. Jim Camel has given him a place to stay--in the shed in his backyard.
Charlie's pays Diana a visit and then gets the idea to form a rob squad. Diana initially resists but then goes along with the idea.
The plan goes smoothly until Phil Barbour, of the Evil John crew, meets Diana and falls for her. Diana doesn't know Phil's a perv, and Phil doesn't know Diana really isn't an escort.
Jim knows Phil and Phil's buddies Dennis and Stan. Jim can't stand Dennis. And when Jim can't stand someone he stops at murdering them and making their body dissappear. Charlie's a criminal, but he's not THAT KIND of criminal.
Check out the gallery and enjoy the excerpts from GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE.
Raw Bud: Girlfriend Experience

This is the page for my feature length script 'Girlfriend Experience'.
The story revolves around Charlie McBall, an ex-con who conspires with his friend Diana Rosemary to rip guys off.
Charlie and Diana encounter a group called 'the evil john crew' and things take a violent turn. Part of the reason things go south is because Charlie's good buddy Jim Camel has a bone to pick with the Evil Johns.
Jim's also a serial killer.
Someday Charlie will get his life on track...that's the tale of Raw Bud. (sound it out 'rob-bed').
