The Garden State Film Festival was born in 2002 after a chance encounter in a Sea Girt, NJ Grocery store by 25 year film industry veteran Diane Raver and the well known Hollywood actor Robert Pastorelli. Through his deep ties to Hollywood Mr. Pastorelli and Ms. Raver were able to bring the State of New Jersey an all encompassing event. It premiered in 2003 and was immediately deemed a huge success. Since that time, such industry notables such as Glenn Close, Frank Vincent, Batman producer Michael Uslan, Austin Pendelton, Kurtwood Smith and others have lent their support.

GSFF is an all volunteer non profit organization. Our event is held on an annual basis over a three day weekend in the spring of each year at the Paramount Theater/Convention Hall complex as well as other venues in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

MISSION

Feb 28, 2007 02:51PM

The GSFF mission statement is twofold. The primary goal is to introduce thousands of children, teens, seniors and other audience members to the cinematic arts by presenting independent film screenings, hands on workshops, professional panel discussions, Open Talent Casting Call and other outreach programs. In addition we further our mission year round by providing educational and outreach program to at risk youth, seniors, the military and other non profit groups.

Our secondary goal is to aid in the revitalization of Asbury Park, which we achieve each year by drawing significant numbers of people to Asbury Park for a culturally enriching cinematic experience. To accomplish its mission, the GSFF has adopted the following objectives: Fill a cultural void in the community by presenting a wide variety of programs that encourage an appreciation of the cinematic arts and contribute to the quality of life of area residents. Present culturally diverse programming that reflects the demographics of our community while promoting an understanding of the value of many cultures in a pluralistic society. Conduct active arts education programs for students throughout Monmouth County that assist schools in achieving state core curriculum standards. Provide a forum for emerging filmmakers to present their work, especially young, local filmmakers and filmmakers from culturally diverse backgrounds. Make programs and screenings available to special interest groups, including but not limited to, veterans and military personnel, senior citizens and the economically disadvantaged, minorities and Americans with disabilities. Create partnerships with other organizations to promote the cinematic arts as a vital part of the community that contributes to economic development and introduces vocational opportunities to young people.

GSFF PHILOSOPHY

Feb 28, 2007 02:49PM

The artistic philosophy of the Garden State Film Festival is rooted in the celebration of the independent film genre and the creation of a forum where local and other independent filmmakers can exhibit their work. In addition, our event provides novice and aspiring filmmakers, actors, and others interested in a career in the film business, the opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and mentoring. See you at the movies!
