My name is Alexandra Sotnikova. I'm the producer and the main heroine of the documentary film “My Happy Family” (2006, 45 min.). This work is Russia's first documentary film to raise the question of motherhood in a lesbian family. The film has been screened at the 14th Annual St. Petersburg International Film Festival Festival of Festivals-2006 and at the 18th Hamburg International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival We are looking for international film festivals selectors or for those who may be interested in distribution. "My Happy Family" synopsis

“My Happy Family” is Russia's first documentary film to raise the question of motherhood in a lesbian family.
The story of two Russian lesbians, Sasha and Marina, who want to have a baby. The personal situation of one concrete lesbian family is examined in the film. The first stage of parenting is portrayed in the documentary – the process of decision making to give birth to a child.
The heroines try to solve painful questions: what is waiting for them and their child in the future? Russian society is not yet ready to acknowledge the social and legal status of lesbian families. Do the future mothers have the right to destine their child to a probable life of discrimination?
The off-screen voice of their unborn child accompanies us along the journey. The fears and prejudices about having two mothers that this voice first expresses, slowly lose impact as the love and the longing of the two women gains in impact.
Times change through the acts of people. Our heroines, through their public announcement of their personal decisions, are also part of changing the times. In this way the lesbians prove that they have the personal, individual right to be mothers, have the right to happiness and the right to give love to their child.
