School's Out, Films In! May 29, 2008 05:42PM
As the school year comes to a close temporarily, the outlook for my summer seems to be very busy. The short comedy "Babies on Sale" has been slowly moving around the web and I just wish I could get this documentary setup properly for a wider audience. I was contacted to direct two short films earlier and found out that I may be given another story to direct or maybe two brand new ones altogether. It seems that things are much easier when you are in control of the projects that you are doing, but hey.....what am I to do? These two shorts are very positive so even if I am given a different script to direct, chances are that it will be a positive storyline as well, so that works!
Movie Piracy Seminar at the 2006 Bare Bones Script 2 Screen Film Festival Sep 28, 2006 07:37AM
Nicole Ayers Presents Movie Piracy Seminar at Bare Bones Script 2 Screen Film Festival (Philadelphia, PA, USA, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006) - Independent film director, Nicole Ayers will be speaking about movie piracy at this year's Bare Bone's Script 2 Screen Film Festival. The one hour seminar will cover copyright infringement and tips on protecting films from unauthorized usage by production staff and talent. Nicole Ayers will also discuss the various effects that movie piracy has on independent filmmakers. The seminar is being held on Saturday, October 7th at The 5th Annual Bare Bones Script 2 Screen Film Festival & Movie Biz Conference. It is the second installment of an Anti-Piracy campaign being held by independent production company, Madlab Entertainment. The campaign is headed by Nicole Ayers. Its objective is to create and spread awareness throughout the filmmaking community and the movie going audience that movie piracy is illegal. "By speaking out against piracy, others will be more inclined to take action against it. It can then be eliminated", says Ayers. Ayers wrote and directed the short movie "Lapse of Fascia", which won Best Urban Film at the 2005 Bare Bones Script 2 Screen Film Festival. She has also written and directed the short "Lighten Up", which can be viewed on IFC's Medialab and Youtube. She is currently working on a documentary for cable television.

Doing well at IFC Dec 14, 2007 07:31PM
Since moving Lighten Up to IFC's medialab, it has received over 900 views and a relatively nice rating from audience members. I find that to be great news for this one minute comedy short. It has had a good run online so that may be where it belongs. I recently attempted to submit Lighten Up to a film festival only to find out that it is too short for the "short film" category. What a trip! The Babelgum competition with Spike Lee seems interesting. Maybe there will be time to squeeze a short movie onto that website. We shall find out! Thanks for reading and if you have not taken the chance already, check out Lighten Up on IFC's Medialab.
Lighten Up already Aug 08, 2006 04:04PM
This is a one minute short that was pretty fun to shoot and scary at the same time. I thought that I secured the main location by speaking with the manager of this diner in Philadelphia. To my surprise, the manager never obtained an ok from the owner who was very concerned about why a group of people were taking up space in his place of business.....with camera equipment. Eventually, everything was worked out and we were able to complete the shoot. This short was originally made for an online film festival/competition, which I lost. I decided to join myspace and put the movie on my page, which I did. Their video player brought the quality down to about 5% though, which doesn't do the movie any justice. Therefore, I decided to upload it onto ifilm as well, thinking that I will get more views. Not only did I get nothing near a few clicks, the quality on ifilm is pretty bland as well. My next move was the medialab at IFC. The worst case scenario...I get a small amount of views. The best case scenario, I get a high rating and a chance to have the movie aired on the cable network. I had to wait for approval, but after that, Lighten Up was in the medialab. It doesn't have a high rating right now, but the quality is much greater than any other place online where the movie is posted. Now, I just hope that people watch it and leave lots of comments.
