MY TOP 5 LOW BUDGET PRODUCTION TIPS
Sep 12, 2006 07:45AM
Most of these are common sense, but if they can be of help - great.
1. START WITH A SOLID SCRIPT. It's worth joining filmmaking forums and asking other filmmakers to critique your screenplay before you hit pre-production. Be open-minded.
2. ALWAYS AUDITION. Never cast on a recommendation, no matter how highly recommended.
3. REHEARSE REHEARSE REHEARSE. It's the only way you'll know your cast have learnt (and can perform!) their lines.
4. DON'T WEAR TOO MANY HATS. Delegate - everyone will be happier knowing what their responsibilities are and it will allow you the time you need to call the shots.
5. BE PREPARED. There are some things you should never be without. For me these include script, storyboard, release forms, spare tapes, double A batteries, gaffer tape, masking tape, pens, blu-tack, bottled water, an umbrella, fifty pounds cash and a first aid box, just in case.
Good luck!

just keeping in touch.

Hi,
I just shot my movie 'Room for Rent' wearing FOUR CAPS, writer, director, producer and actor. This was because of a serious lack of funds. In Jamaica when you say movie, people expect lots of cash. I hope I will never have to do this again. I lost twelve pounds(I was 160lbs), lost my NATURE, and as a result, lost my girl.
Was it worth it? Yes,yes, yes. But as stated I hope never to do this again.
Ginger Knight.

Hi - Re don't wear too many hats. I thought I understood that until we were on set and I was asked to approve wardrobe for my actors and background. I dutifully met with each of them and individully went through their wardrobe. Problem is the actors showed up on set and I had inadvertently put all of my actors in green. Next time I'll get a wardrobe person, its worth it.
