SHANTELL TOWN WINS AWARDS AT BFM!!!!! Sep 12, 2007 07:45AM
Dear All, I'm pleased to announce that 'Shantell Town' has won two awards at last night's BFM Short Film Awards sponsored by BET, at the Odeon, West End. Best Female Actor and Best Director. It's an honour and priviledge to receive such an award. I'm really chuffed. Nicky was gobsmacked. She was thinking of never acting again, but hopefully this changes her mind. More pictures follow soon.

Hi, The festival went well. Didn't win an award but it's the taking part that counts. The screening was pretty full too, so more peole have had the Shantell Town experience. I'm currently pitching new script for funding. Been shortlisted from hundreds of applicants and will have training in Feb. Fingers crossed I'll be making a new film in March. All is good, apart from being a penniless filmmaker. Good luck for the New Year! Laters...px

Dear Friends,

Help me win the Babelgum Online Film Festival!

My film, PEACE, is competing in the Social/Environment category and needs more votes to make the shortlist. So please give me a helping hand by voting for it yourself its pretty simple:

· Download Babelgum here: www.babelgum.com/download

· Enter the Films & Festivals Community (its the first one on the top left corner when you start Babelgum) and search for my film: PEACE

· Use the Rate tool to give it your vote 5 stars please!

If I win, Ill be heading to Cannes to pick up my award of 20,000 Euros from Spike Lee, on May 20th. Id love you to come with me and sip champagne while rubbing shoulders with the starsand maybe you can. Because Babelgum is offering a prize for the person who writes the most original review of the winning films, using the Comment tool or Message Board. Write a glowing review about my entry and if I win, you win!

Thanks for your support

Paulette,

Bravo! I saw the entire film. Excellent work! From the opening to the ending - the sound/music, the cinematography, choreography - what production value! And the whole damn cast is fine and fun to watch. All good things to you and I'll keep an eye on you! I've completed several tracks for my next film - (I start with my creative strength and go from there) early ears tell me it's haunting and beautiful, which makes me smile, as I'm writing a thriller... and I'll keep you posted.

May all good things find you Woman!

No Luggage is not my story but was told to me by a friend from India. I just thought it applied to any immigrant. Since I am African, I made the lead character an African woman.

Yea...I'm more into the screening possibilties in other countries. Though it was cool that both my films played in India!
BTW - do you know if any of the filmmakers attended the festival?? Would be great to know if there was an actual Pumelo screening. I've asked the organizers to post pictures and was told there would be some stills as well as video, but they have yet to post any (making me think...maybe it WAS a fake festival.)

PRESS RELEASE –
UPDATE ON “MUSIC IS MY LIFE, POLITICS MY MISTRESS:
THE STORY OF OSCAR BROWN JR.”

November 26, 2006
Denver, CO
Contact: donnie l. betts

donnie l. betts and his film Music Is My Life Politics My Mistress are highlighted in an article in Documentary Magazine (formerly IDA – International Documentary Association Magazine) for his groundbreaking work on the definitive film on American Icon, poet, playwright, author, composer, and Civil Rights Activist Oscar Brown Jr. The film, which has shown at over 20 film festivals and garnered 10 awards, continues to make strides in the film community. Reviews have called the film “outstanding”, “ground-breaking”, “brilliant”, “witty” and “often funny” to name a few. The article can be founding the November/December 2006 issue of Documentary Magazine under “Docs for Arts’ Sake” under the heading “Oscar and Sam” by Christopher Bosen.

DVD AVAILABLE late February 2007!!!

The DVD for“Music is My Life, Politics My Mistress”will be available in late February 2007. Thanks to all who have made your pre-paid purchase, and thanks for your patience. After spending six years making the film I do have patience. We had hoped that we would have enough orders by now that you would have it (DVD) in your hot little hands, but we need at least another 150 orders to start the duplication process. Plus we are adding new materials so we have had to purchase additional rights which has taken longer and added more cost that we budgeted for. After producing this film I have learned to pay as I go, so we should have all the rights taken care of in December. I hate to disappoint everyone who wanted to have the DVD in time to give as a gift for the holidays but it just won’t be ready. You are no more disappointed than I am but it is a lot more involved than I anticipated because of the music and having to meet PBS deadlines. Please visit the website www.musicismylife.info or call 1-866-966-1390 or dlbetts@nocredits.com to place your order if you have not done so already, and encourage your friends and colleagues to do so as well. Remember $25 for DVD or $50 for DVD/CD plus S/H

PBS AIRING
We are scheduled to air an abbreviated version of the film on PBS stations nationally in February 2007. Please encourage your local stations to carry the film. You can contact your local PBS station by going to www.PBS.org. There are also underwriting opportunities available. Please contact me directly for more information.

FINALLY…

I have just come back from very successful screenings in Calgary, Alberta and Prague, Czech Republic. We are looking forward to screening in Chicago at the Field Museum on the 17th of February and a DVD release party at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City, CA on the 25th of Feb, plus Tucson, AZ., and Nashville, TN., New York and hopefully a city near you!

Thanks to all, for your support.

screening is always a fun and strange process - because you never really know how everyone felt. And most of the time, you only hear from those who liked it. It's cool, none the less - as stressful as it is. I wouldn't want to do anything else.

Thanks for the kind words.

Hi there... Thanks for stopping by our page. Appreciate the encouragement. Are you uk-based? I'll be in London later in the month. Are you in the city? Best, A.

That was lovely, beautiful coloration, great moves and you captured everything including the dancers facial expressions and the streets. I I love it and can't wait to see the rest of it. Kinda reminds me of Breaking one and Two as far as the moves are concern. Only difference is this is more sexy, you know what I mean. Great Job.
