Encore Presentation @ Pan-African Film Fest '08 Feb 16, 2008 09:40PM
Encore presentations are supposed to have, like, half the people - if not less. Well, our second showing of THIS IS THE LIFE last night screened to a nearly full house! Way, way more than we expected. More than 250 emcees, hip hop heads, filmlovers and curious personalities streamed into the Magic Johnson Theaters in Los Angeles on Monday night for the second and final screening of THIS IS THE LIFE at the Pan-African Film Festival. MAJOR PROPS + MUCH LOVE to Abstract Rude who flew in from a gig out of state to support the film. Abbey was joined by Ellay Khule and family, Medusa, KoKo, Fatjack and family, Funky Trend, Big Arch, Big Al and Busdriver. The audience response was overwhelmingly hyped. People really got into the story of the Good Life and all the magnificient young artists who breathed life into the space every Thursday night back in the '90s. There were lots of oohs and aahs as they watched the rhymesayers and stories in the movie. And, a whole lotta laughs too. Afterward, we all did a 20-minute Q&A with some good questions from the audience about the current state of hip hop. Very nice. I want to sincerely thank everyone who came out on both nights to make our first festival experience so memorable and successful. It means a lot to begin our festival circuit with that strong support from home. I'll keep everyone posted on the next stop. Make sure to spread the word. This is a story that needs to be known far & wide. AVA
World Premiere @ Pan-African Film Festival Feb 16, 2008 09:38PM
THIS IS THE LIFE sold out its theater at the Pan-African Film Festival two hours before the screening at 8PM! The first film of the festival to sell out every seat in the house! It was standing room only. The place with packed with music fans, friends, film lovers and festivalgoers. In attendance: Myka Nyne, Aceyalone, Ellay Khule, Tray-Loc (who flew in from Vegas), Medusa, 2Mex, Xololanxinxo, Ganjah K, Fatjack, JMD, Suga B, Figures of Speech, Big Al, Wreckless, Sach, Mear One, Hines, Hannibal, Omid, Open Mike Eagle, Psychosiz, DumbFounDead, Kandi Cole, Scar, Jah Orah, Mike Nardone, The Poetess, Monique Matthews, Monalisa Murray, and the founders of the Good Life, R. Kain Blaze and Ms. B. Hall. It was a truly incredible evening for me and all the team that worked with me to tell this story - Omid, Ellene, Isaac, Krishna and Spencer. The energy was absolutely AMAZING. The screening began at 8:20 pm after an introduction from one of the film's biggest supporters, Kristi Lomax of KPFK. Afterward, the response was wonderful, to say the least. We thank the West Coast family for coming out and supporting from as far away as Oakland, Palm Springs and San Diego. If you missed it, couldn't get in or want to see it again, the encore presentation is Monday, February 11 at 8PM at the Magic Johnson Theaters. Blessing to all!!!! AVA
