Film maker Help!!!
Jun 16, 2006 11:00PM
Currently, I have some songs that are commercially licensed and I am in the process of swapping out that music with songs from new original artists. I've gotten releases from these artists and agreed to give them some limited compensation based on the distribution agreement. Mostly, it's about us helping each other realize our dreams. There is one song by a major artist that I am trying to keep in the movie. It's called "24" by Switchfoot. It was written by JONATHAN FOREMAN. It's a beautiful song and it works perfectly in the last scene and over the closing credits of the film. I think it really helps to support the message of the film. I received worldwide festival release from Jimi Williams, Manager, Copyright and Licensing at EMI Music, CMG Publishing several months ago. Mr. Williams was great to work with and he always returned my calls. I tried to contact him to request a distribution release arrangement that I could afford as a first time film maker, but I found out he has left the company. I have made contact with his replacement Lisa Stutts, and have exchanged emails with her, but she will not return my calls. So I have not been able to speak with her. I really believe that JONATHAN FOREMAN would be happy with the way the song is being used in the movie. I'd really love to get in touch with him. If anyone can help me get my film to him or put me in contact with him or any of the members of Switchfoot, I would really appreciate it. I want to realize my dreams, and I want to get my film distributed in the best possible way. I have another song to swap it out with, but I think the story would be best told with "24" as the closing song. Any leads?
Let me know.

At My Day Job
May 23, 2006 12:09PM
God is good all the time!!!
I say that to remind myself.
I am at my day job, and I want to scream. I'm very grateful that I have a job and I am able to pay my bills and fund my dream, but it can be challenging.
The actual job or work is not a problem.
I want to be my own boss. I think that's why I like filmmaking so much.
I am the boss when I am the producer, and I'm a really good boss. :)

2nd Blog
May 22, 2006 09:39AM
This is the second blog that I've ever written. The weekend has come and gone and now I'm back at my survival job.
I'm constantly trying to figure out how to get to the next step in the film making process.
I'm working on producing another short film. It's a french thriller. I'm working with the writer.
My first short film is doing pretty well, but it hasn't translated into any work yet.
I'll let you know when something great happens.

Hello, this is the first time I've ever blogged anywhere at anytime. I made a film that I have been submitting through WithoutABox since last summer (2005) to festivals.
The film's been rejected by far more festivals than it's been accepted into, but it has done okay. The film is "Joe Willie's Friend". To see trailer and read production information: www.wbjrfilms.com
I'm not quite sure what I should be writing here, but I know that part of the reason that I'm using WithoutABox is that I want to advance my filmmaking opportunities. It has been very helpful with the registration process.
I'd love to meet other filmmakers and learn whatever I can from them regarding production and networking.
Okay, that's the end of my first blog.
God bless you real good.

Dear eyeswideshutbx,
First of all, it's been a while.
I apologize for the spam message, but I just recently finished a short of mine and was looking for feedback on it. If you have 30 minutes, please feel free to take a look at it:

I can feel your every pain, sitting at my day job flipping between screens to type a blog hoping that my supervisor will not around the corner. Keep on doing what you do. I am a scriptwriter trying to sell. I have two great scripts iand trying hard to get out there also have about six in the works. Any leads to an agency, a good producer, director willing to take a chance i would love to share my work.

When I get a chance, I'll check out your trailer. I am actually working on a trailer for my movie, "Brought Me The Far". It is about a woman living with HIV and her trials and triumphs. Based on a real story. It was an interesting piece to work on, had to do LOTS of research, so I am hoping that it is as educational as entertaining.

Okay, I'm not a very good blogger. I seem to get so involved with life that I can't make the time to write down thoughts here. I think that's why I must have 5 or 6 journals from years past. I stopped journalling about 100 years ago.
I'm going to go to the Los Angeles Film Festival tonight. I haven't been to very many festivals, but I must say of all the festivals that I have been to, it is my favorite. It has well deserved prestige. It is packed with activities, packed with movies, packed with real celebrities, packed with events, and it's fun.
Also, there is great opportunity to begin good relationships. If you are a filmmaker, you definitely ought to be hanging out in the Red Room, and even if you're not, if you can hang out in the Red Room, you ought to find away to do it.
I'm still working on the clearance for the Switchfoot song. I'm a little closer. God still working out the details. I have an agreement, but I didn't realize

There was a good amount of people in the audience and your film was received well. The IBFF did a wonderful job this year and it was a lot of fun for all involved. The biggest problem with festivals is that they cost so much to get to and we as struggling filmmakers don't always have the money. One thing we could do is network with other filmamakers in different cities and have them represent us and us them when we are unable to attend. I missed many of the festivals we were accepted in and hate that I missed even one.
I know what you feel about this whole job thing. It's a drain but we got to hold on. The great director Bill Duke once told me "It's not what we're doing, it's what we're doing it for that counts." When the job gets over whelming, try to remember that. See if it helps. It helped me and continues to do so.

PS my film will be showing in Long Beach at The AOFFest from July 28 - 31st. Would love for you to see it and do lunch.

I just saw your trailor but I realize I saw your film in Atlanta in March. A very good piece of film making. I enjoyed it then. I also may have met you guys outside of the theatre in the mall on the day it was shown. I taught one of the classes while I was there. Don't worry about the festivals that didn't pick up your film. That's their loss. But getting in festivals is a numbers game. Some festivals want films that neither yu nor I would ever understand how anyone could make these types of films. So keep up the good work and later for them.

Good looking out.

Hey, Wilson Bell, Yea I checked out the Trailer and i Want to say that it is a very good peice of work. Hang in there on the film festival circut maybe it will get pick up then turned into a feature. Keep up the good work.

Wow, I must say that that trailer was very powerful. I agree with gator-boy that we need more christian messages in films these day. One day I look forward to seeing this.
May 25, 2006 01:36PM
Hi Vernon,
thanks for the note. Congratulations on your film and the award. I want all the blessings of God that I can get, by the by, so it doesn't matter how many times it's been said to me, I love hearing it.
My job situation is necessary for the moment, but "this too shall pass". Because I am at work, I was unable to view your movie, but I will look at it when I get home.
Thanks again.
Wilson Bell

Hello,
I wasn't able to watch your trailer as this Mac laptop that I'm on in the middle of AP US history is crappy. I'll watch it when I get home and let you know.
However, because I'm still in High School, I really can't relate to your living situation; but I know what it's like to have a lame job and am also a devout Christian. I wish you the best of luck in what you do. And even though it's been said in the last few posts, God bless.
May 22, 2006 09:40AM
Hey, thanks for your message. I'm not sure I read it last week. I appreciate your comments a lot. God bless you real good.
May 19, 2006 10:27AM
Welcome to the Audience Blog community! I checked out the trailer for "Joe Willie's Friend" and it looks fantastic. We need more films with real Christian messages these days, not just the mindless money-makers that the theaters are so full of. I say rock on! You have the gator-boy stamp of approval. God Bless.
